These etchings come from a suite of six and date from the period when Judd abandoned colour in favour of monochrome aquatints and line etchings. They depict two of the sculptural objects which formed part of his highly individual three-dimensional vocabulary, the wall-mounted stack and the open box displayed on the floor. The prints are not studies for particular sculptures, but simply part of a lexicon of Judd's significant forms, or what he called 'specific objects'. Judd's approach to his art concentrated on the formal properties of an object. His work emphasised logic and clarity and, above all, objectivity over subjectivity.
